In brief: PepsiCo's Frito-Lay North America unveiled plans to grow their California-based electric truck fleet.
Several dignitaries from California, including Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. and secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency Matt Rodriguez were on hand for the unveiling the Frito-Lay's latest electric trucks to be added to their growing fleet of EVs.
By the end of the year, more trucks will have been added, totaling 105 all-electric delivery trucks for the company in California - the largest of any state.
The initial rollout of all-electric trucks in California has already eliminated the need for an estimated 50,000 gallons of fuel and 1 million pounds of greenhouse gases. When all 105 trucks are deployed by the end of this year, Frito-Lay expects to eliminate 200,000 gallons of fuel and nearly 4.5 million pounds of greenhouse gases annually in the state of California.
The trucks will operate from distribution centers in Alameda, City of Industry, La Mirada, Manteca, San Diego, San Jose and Torrance.
Frito-Lay received a grant from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee as well as funding from the California Energy Commission through the Hybrid Truck Bus Voucher Incentive Project from the California Air Resources Board.
